Today’s Wordle #1586 hints and answers for Wednesday October 22nd
Looking for help with today’s Wordle? Look no further dearest Wordlers, I have another hint and clue for you as well as the answer below. It’s also Wordle Wednesday, which means I have another challenge for you before we get to the solution.
Every Wednesday I give away a new riddle, puzzle or logical puzzle for you. Last week was super tough, so today we’re going a little easier. I realize that not everyone wants to solve in-depth logic puzzles (who has the time anyway?), so here’s a puzzle instead:

How to solve today’s word
How to play Wordle
Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or less. After each guess, the game gives you feedback to help you get closer to the answer:
- Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct place.
- Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong place.
- Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.
Use these guidelines to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot, or even me, your humble storyteller. See the rules for Competitive Wordle at the end of this post.
Today’s Wordle Hints and Answers

Wordle Bot analysis
I check the Wordle Bot every day to help analyze my puzzle. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.
SPARE was a good opening tip today, though not great by any means. LIROT shortened the remaining 98 words to just 2 (and yes, I was just trying to come up with a word that used as many common letters as possible – LIROT is the plural of will reada currency used in a number of countries similar to the “pound” or “dollar” or “rupee”). The two remaining words were SHUNT and STUNT, but I only came up with STUNT. Luckily for me it was Wordle!

With the Wordle Bot, we get 1 point each for guessing a three and 0 for a tie. We’ve been bonding almost every day lately, which is good for me, but not for Bot, who remains far, far behind me in October:
Eric: 19 points
Wordle Bot: 3 point
How to play competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing at 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 point; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing word is -3 points.
- If you defeat your opponent, you get 1 point. If you succeed, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get the score. Keep a daily running score or play for a new score every day.
- Friday is 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.
- You can keep a record or just play every day. Enjoy it!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
Stunt comes from Middle English stunten (“to make dull or stupid”), cognate with Old Norse stuttr (“short”). Originally meaning ‘to prevent growth’, it later evolved in the 19th century to mean ‘a brave act’ – something that ‘stops’ people in awe.
